Yoga retreat

At the Mai Ram Yoga school, the retreat is one of the most important events. It is a special occasion during which participants deepen their knowledge and their yoga practice even further.

The benefits of a yoga retreat are countless, but the most important of them is a person’s spiritual growth.

A yoga retreat is a conscious withdrawal in pursuit of deeper self-knowledge. The practices of a retreat focus on meditation, inner self-observation, silence, mindful eating, breathing practice and asana practice. Mai Ram Yoga retreats may last a day, several days or even several weeks.

What is a yoga retreat?

A yoga retreat is a period of withdrawal in which a person steps away from activity, from ordinary work, worries and distractions, in pursuit of self-knowledge.

During a retreat a person withdraws from technology and from ordinary activities so as to turn their attention more deeply to the inner world.

A yoga retreat offers a chance to restore the connection with oneself, to strengthen spiritual practice and to gain new insights that help a person to live more consciously and more harmoniously.

It is a period in which a person seeks deeper self-knowledge and the restoration of emotional balance through intensive yoga practices, meditation, self-observation and silence.

The benefits of a yoga retreat

A yoga retreat helps a person to stop and grasp the importance of the present moment. They become more open to experiencing joy, simplicity and the fullness of life. This encourages a natural gratitude for life, for the body, for one’s opportunities and for the people around.

A yoga retreat is always a wonderful opportunity for spiritual growth!

Mai Ram Yoga retreats

A Mai Ram Yoga retreat enriches spiritual knowledge, encourages conscious presence in the here and now and develops attentiveness through a variety of yoga practices.

During a retreat the yoga practitioner seeks to focus on themselves, devoting much time to deep self-observation and to reflecting on the meaning and goals of their life. They try to understand the obstacles on the spiritual path and learn to remove them. That is why peace of mind and awareness are very important during a retreat. To restore the connection with one’s inner self and with nature, it is also important to keep inner and outer silence and to limit the use of mobile phones and computers.

MRY retreats follow the unique philosophical system of the five natural elements created by Guru Mai Ram. In the morning and the evening there are rites and meditation practices, and the classical texts of yoga are studied. During the day there is karma yoga, selfless work, asana and pranayama techniques are practised, yoga philosophy is studied and participants learn to carry out procedures that cleanse the body of toxins. Living conditions during a retreat are simple, and during a strict retreat ascetic. The food is light and vegetarian.

Retreats for yoga teachers

The Mai Ram Yoga teachers’ retreat is a period of seclusion designed especially for yoga teachers, during which they can deepen their personal practice, broaden their knowledge and refine their skills in teaching yoga. Teachers have the opportunity to practise meditation and other spiritual disciplines intensively, to study yoga philosophy, spiritual texts and teaching methodology, to improve their teaching skills, to receive feedback from advanced teachers and to share experience with other yoga teachers. The yoga teachers’ retreat fosters devotion to one’s own spiritual practice and to the mission of teaching. Participants have the opportunity to meet Guru Mai Ram and to work through various questions of personal growth, broaden their knowledge of teaching and develop their practice as teachers.

Yoga camps

Mai Ram Yoga family camps are meant for parents with children. The aim of the camp is to practise yoga together as a family. Parents and children immerse themselves in yoga practices from early morning until evening.

The yoga teachers help children to understand themselves and the world around them, the laws of nature and the order found in nature, to develop their talents and to form meaningful goals in life.

During the camp there are various yoga sessions suited to both parents and children. The food is light and vegetarian.
