The yogic diet – what is it?

The yogic diet is part of a conscious way of life that leads to harmony of body, mind and consciousness. In yoga practice, food is understood as a source of vital energy, prana. For a yogi, food is not only nourishment for the body but also a continuation of spiritual practice, because food is a manifestation of divine energy. That is why one who practises yoga tries to eat in silence, consciously and with gratitude to the Supreme.

While eating, the yogi seeks to preserve sattva (sattva), inner purity. Pure and harmoniously combined food gives calm, strength, clarity and spiritual sensitivity.

Fresh, natural and light food nourishes the body and makes meditation easier. The yogic diet also stresses moderation in eating, so that the body is always light, never weighed down, and the mind is clear and calm.
